Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akti in Chattisgarh and Akha Teej in Gujarat and Rajasthan, is a holy day for Hindus and Jains. It falls on the third Tithi of Shukla Paksha of the month of Vaishakha and one of the four most important days of the year for the Hindus. It is an auspicious day of the birthday of Lord Parasurama who is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. On this day, Veda Vyas began to write Mahabharat. Jains celebrate this day to commemorate Tirthankara Rishabhanatha’s ending of one-year fast by consuming sugarcane juice poured into his cupped hands.
The word ‘Akshaya’ means the never diminishing in Sanskrit and the day is believed to bring good luck, fortune and success. It is believed that if you do charity on this day you’ll be blessed. Hindus visit many temples during Akshaya Trithiya, specially Maha Vishnu and Maha Lakshmi Temples.
The day is considered auspicious for starting new ventures, new business, graha pravesh, swearing in ceremony, formation of new party, formation of new government, construction of house, any venture initiated on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya is assumed to grow and bring prosperity. Buying gold on Akshaya Trithiya 2017 is considered very auspicious and it is believed that wealth will grow.
Astrological Significance
As per Hindu Electional Astrology (finding the Muhurta) three lunar days (tithis) are auspicious. These are called Sade-Teen Muhurtas also. These Tithis are first Tithi of Bright Half of Chaitra (starting of new year), tenth Tithi of Bright Half of Ashvina (Vijay Dashmi), third Tithi of Bright Half of Vaishakha (Akshay Tritiya- Parshu Jyanti) it is also Lingayatism founder lord Basveshvara Jayanti and first Tithi of Bright Half of Karttika are called “Sade-Teen (3 ½) Muhurta”. The first three tithis are counted as full and the last one as half Tithi and constitute Sade – Teen Muhurta. Sun and moon are astrologically believed to be at their most exalted equal brightness on this day. Akshaya Tritiya is also called Navanna Parvam. Akshaya Tritiya falling on a Rohini star on Monday is considered more auspicious.
On Akshay Tritiya 2017, a king or those who have the responsibility of taking care of the subjects, should perform ‘puja’, with gratitude and devotion, of the picture of ‘Vaibhav-Lakshmi’ with Sree Vishnu as it helps to make the subjects happy and prosperous. Prayers to Maha Vishnu, brings us the grace of ‘Goddess Lakshmi’ as she is the divine energy of Sree Maha Vishnu. Therefore, before worshiping Sree Lakshmi in any of her forms, first invite Sree Vishnu and then invite Sree Lakshmi as the worshiper gets maximum benefit of Lakshmi-tattva

Incarnation Of Parashurama Avatar:
Lord Vishnu incarnated as Parashurama Avatar in Treta- Yuga to annihilate kshatriyas lords who strayed from their way and had turned into an extraordinary weight to Bhoomidevi (Mother Earth) and her child.
Lord Krishna and Sudama:
On Akshaya Tritiya Sudama visited his Lord Krishna along with a hearty gift of handful beaten rice and got boon from Lord Krishna, who blessed him with more than the wealth he actually intended to ask for.
